These Streets Don't Love You Like I Do Read online

“What’s up, Ahni? You still mad at me?” he asked as he ran his fingers through her hair.

She laid her head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat.

“I’m not mad at you, I’m mad at myself. If it wasn’t for me, Zon would have never got shot.” She sighed.

“Chill on that shit, Ahni. It wasn’t your fault. Them niggas had planned on getting at us regardless. The part I’m pissed about is the fact that you got caught in the middle of that shit,” he told her.

“You know who did it?” she asked him.

He nodded his head. He knew exactly who it was. It was his number one enemy, Khan. That nigga had been a pain in his ass for the past two years over some shit that was out of his control.

  “Who was it?” Ahnesty asked.

“Don’t even worry about all that. But check this out, bae. When I tell you to do something, it’s not because I’m trying to keep you from having fun, be controlling or none of that shit. I tell you because I know exactly how grimy these damn streets can be. You know I would lose my damn mind if something were to ever happen to you. I know you’re young and wanna live your life but the shit that I’m into kind of makes it hard,” he explained to her.

Ahnesty nodded her head in understanding. She knew he was right but just like always, she let her cousin get in her head just to drag her into some bullshit. Slowly she was starting to see why Fab didn’t want her hanging around her.

“I love you, Fabion,” she said.

“I love you, too, Mami,” he said as he kissed her.

Ahnesty was about to say something but it was put on pause when Fabion’s phone started ringing. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He finally had a little down time to chill and he wanted to spend his time with his favorite girl.

“Go ahead and answer it,” Ahnesty said as she got off his lap.

Fabion checked his phone to see who was calling. Seeing it was someone he really didn’t care to talk to right then, he hit the decline button and put his phone on silent. When he looked up, Ahnesty was staring him right in his face with a funny look on her face.

  “Chill,” he told her.

“I’m cool,” she said as she picked her laptop up and went back to writing her paper.

She wasn’t even going to speak on how she thought that was real suspicious. Although she knew Fabion wasn’t perfect and probably did his share of dirt, she had never had any reason not to trust him. One thing she respected about Fab was that he never brought his dirt to her front door. She had never been approached by a female while she was out, he didn’t have people playing on her phone or any of that.

“Fab, let me ask you a question,” she said.

“What’s up?” he asked as he peeled his eyes away from the TV.

“Do you think I’m getting fat? Be honest, I promise I won’t get mad.”

“You have gotten a little thick lately but that’s what happens when you get dicked down properly.” He shrugged.

  “Really, Fab?” she asked.

“Yea, I love it though. Why, you tripping?” he questioned her.

“I just feel like I could stand to lose a few pounds.”

“Ahni, there’s nothing wrong with your body, it’s bad as hell. Shit, who you need to look sexy for besides me, anyways?”

“Fabion,” Ahnesty sighed as she rolled her eyes, “it's not about being sexy, it's about me being confident,” she explained to him.

“Well, regardless of what you think, you always have been and always will be beautiful to me,” he said sincerely.

Ahnesty couldn't do anything but blush. This was the side of Fabion that people rarely got to see because in the streets he had to be heartless and ruthless.

“You sure do know how to run game on a girl,” she joked.

“I know, right? That’s how I got you, ain't it?” He smirked.

  “Uhh, no,” she laughed.

“Whatever, little dude. Just finish your work. I'm about to take a catnap. A nigga tired as hell,” he said before kissing her and getting up.

Ahnesty took his bottom lip hostage in her mouth and wouldn't let him go.

“Don't start none, won't be none,” he told her when he was finally able to break away.

“But what if I want it to be some?” she asked as she grabbed at his belt.

“Nope.” He backed away. “You got work to do and don't think I don't know you ain't been to class all week. You better chill on that shit, Ahnesty. I can't be having you out here slipping.”

Ahnesty just nodded her head because she knew he was right. She had never missed a day of class since she’d been in college.

After taking a two hour nap, Fabion left Ahnesty’s house and went to check on his traps. He never announced or let the niggas know when he was stopping by, he just showed up. He wanted to make sure everything was running smoothly at all times so he always did pop-ups and drive-bys.

He pulled up on Dexter and just sat there. He had gotten a new truck since the shooting so nobody knew that it was him that had just pulled up. After everything looked okay to him, he was about to pull off until he noticed Tone coming out the house. He beeped his horn and Tone headed his way.

“What up, boy?” Tone asked as he got in the truck.

“Another day, another dollar,” Fab told him.

“You just missed your baby mama,” Tone chuckled.

Fabion looked at him with the coldest look he could muster up and that made Tone laugh even harder.

“Nigga, I had a mind to shoot your ass for saying some shit like that,” he spat.

“Aye I'm just going by what she saying. You and twin got some shit on y'all hands.” Tone shook his head.

“Nah, Zon the one who fucked up and is continuing to fuck up. He the one that wanna play daddy to a lil nigga that he's not even sure is his. Chasity is going to fuck him up when she finds out, especially since she's due next month.” Fab shook his head.

“Chasity and Ahnesty is going to fuck both of y'all up then fuck y'all hoes up. Especially Chas. She calmed down when she found out she was pregnant because her ass was a damn force to be reckoned with,” Tone laughed.

“Man, I'm good on my end because I know for a fact that Nikki ain't carrying my baby. I only fucked her ass twice. Both times I used a condom and both times I only literally fucked her in the ass.” Fab shrugged.

  “Nigga,” Tone bust out laughing.

Fabion may have fucked up every once in a while but he wasn't that damn dumb. He knew what he had with Ahnesty and he refused to lose her. He went down that road once and he wasn't trying to let that happen ever again. The difference between him and most niggas was he didn't have a side bitch or side bitches.

He only strayed every once in a while. He knew he could fuck any bitch in Detroit that he wanted but he wouldn't dare wife any of them. He had who he wanted but still chose to have some fun from time to time.

“Speak of the devil,” Fab answered his ringing phone.

“You was talking about me, nigga?” Zon asked.

“Hell yea, me and Tone was just talking about how much longer it would be before Chas fucks you up,” Fabion laughed.

“Haha, nigga. Don’t talk, you're in the same position as me,” Faizon informed him.

“Not hardly, twin, but what's up?”

“I got some new info for you,” Zon told him.

Fabion put his phone on speaker so Tone could hear what he had to say.

  “I'm all ears.”

“Khan didn't authorize that hit last week. Some lil niggas, about sixteen and seventeen were trying to get down with his crew and thought that shooting at you would show their loyalty and that they were down,” Faizon explained.

“Ehh, I don't give a fuck how young they are. I want them dealt with. If I let them get away with this then that means other niggas will think it's okay to try me. To make matters worse, they chose to get at me while my lil mama was with me. That's where they fucked up,” Fab said
.

“I'm already two steps ahead of you, twin-twin. I sent somebody out to scoop them up.”

“Good looking out, twin. You going to see Pops this weekend?” Fab asked even though he already knew the answer.

“Nah, you know that ain't my thing,” Faizon told him.

“Alright, playboy. Be smooth,” Fab said as he hung up the phone.

Ahnesty had just walked out of her last class of the day and she was more than ready to go home. Since she missed a few days, she had to work extra hard just to stay on top of things and make sure she wasn't falling behind. She was trying to send Fabion a text as she walked to her car when she bumped into something hard.

“I'm sorry,” she said before looking up.

“I knew your ass couldn't stay away from me.”

She looked up into those pretty grey eyes before she let her eyes roam over his body. The white V-neck he had on showed off the tattoo over his collar bone that spelled out her name.

“Seems like it's the other way around.” She smirked as she ran her fingers over the tattoo. “You didn't get it covered?”

  “Why would I?” he asked.

“What's up, Shakhan? I'm not even supposed to be talking to your ass,” Ahnesty said as she walked to her car.

“Damn, Ahni. Straight like that?” he asked as he followed her.

“Definitely. If word even got around that I was conversing with you, our parents would be planning our funerals,” she said as she unlocked her door.

“It's just two old friends talking. If that nigga can't understand that, then that's on him.” Khan shrugged.

“Really, Shakhan? What do you want? I know you're not up on campus for no reason,” she asked.

“Nothing. Just wanted to see you, that's all.”

Ahnesty sighed as she laid her head back on her headrest. There was a point in time where she really loved the hell out of Khan. He actually made her forget about her feelings that she had for Fabion when she was in middle school. They were together for two years before she realized he was a manwhore.

“Khan, let me ask you something,” she said.

  “Shoot.” He shrugged.

“It's funny that you said that. Did you have something to do with Fab getting shot at last Saturday?” she asked straight up.

“Here you go.” He shook his head. “No, Ahnesty, I did not authorize that shit. I didn't even find out about it until the next day when I heard this nigga thought I came at him,” he told her.

“Okay, just asking. I really gotta go, though, Shakhan. You’ve been in my presence way longer than you should have been,” she informed him as she started her car up.

Khan hit her with a wink and blew her a kiss before he walked away. Ahnesty just shook her head as she thought about how two of the finest men in the D had her name tatted on them. She felt like she was to blame for their sudden beef anyways.

She had known Fabion since she was fifteen. They were just friends at first until two years later. Fabion had told her about his feelings for her but he couldn't act out on them because she wasn't legal yet and he was twenty at the time. So Khan came into the picture and they dated from when she was seventeen until she was nineteen.

A few months before they broke up, Fabion showed up on her doorstep confessing his love for her and telling her how he was ready to love her and be with her. Of course, she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. After Khan cheated on her, she left him and jumped right into Fab’s arms and she's been there ever since. Soon after that, she heard rumors that Fabion and Khan were beefing with each other.

Now that both men were making a name for themselves in the drug game, it seems as if the beef escalated tenfold. She shook her head as she thought about all the craziness. Her vibrating phone snatched her from her thoughts.

  “Chas Chas!” she said excitedly.

“Chas Chas my ass. Where the hell you been? Did you just forget all about me and your Goddaughter?” Chasity asked.

Ahnesty laughed at her outburst. “Of course not, you’re my big cousin. How could I forget about you?” she asked.

“We need to meet up so I can tell you what this trifling ass sister of mines has done now. Oh, and don't think I don't know about what happed last weekend, Ahni. I told you about messing with that girl,” Chasity fussed.

Ahnesty shook her head. Emani and Chasity may have been sisters but they acted more like enemies. They were literally as different as day and night. Emani was loud, ghetto, always needed to be seen but was scary as hell. Whereas Chasity was cool, laid back, very outspoken and didn't have a problem fighting if need be.

“I'm on my way. Is Zon going to let you come out of the house?” Ahnesty laughed.

“Very funny, little girl. Just bring your ass!” Chasity exclaimed before hanging up.

Ahnesty was about to put her car in drive when she heard someone tapping on her window. Damn near jumping out of her skin, she rolled her window down to speak to Zo.

  “What’s up, Zo?” she asked.

“You know I just sit back and peep everything, right, Ahni?” he asked.

Ahnesty just nodded her head. Zo was so damn good at being a guard that ninety-nine percent of the time she didn’t even know he was following her. She never understood why Fab felt the need to have damn security anyways; it wasn’t like they were the Obamas or something.

“I know, Zo, but could you please just keep this between us?” she begged.

“I’m going to keep this between us this time because I know there will never be a next time. Right, Ahnesty?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Exactly, Zo. See, we’re on the same page.” She smiled.

“Mhm, just try not to get us killed, okay?” Zo asked her.

  “Pinky promise.” She smiled.

All of Fab’s boys and workers were loyal to him without a doubt, but they all loved Ahnesty. They would protect her and look out for her to no end because they all viewed her as their baby sister.

“Where you headed now?” Zo asked.

“Over to Zon’s house to pick up Chasity,” she informed him.

Zo groaned as he shook his head. Ahnesty by herself was a handful but Ahnesty and Chasity together was just too damn much. They were a hot mess together and everyone knew it.

“We’ll be good, I promise. She can’t really do anything until she drops that load anyways,” she assured him.

“Yea, alright. You just lead and I’ll follow,” he told her before he headed back to his car.

Chasity was lying in Ahnesty’s bed rubbing her stomach while flipping through the channels on the TV.

“Bitch, do you know how lucky you are? Two of Detroit’s biggest ballers have your name on their bodies. I swear Drake never lied when he said, ‘Pussy runs everything.’” Chasity laughed.

“Chas, when I seen that nigga today, I had to stop myself from drooling. I had to remember I had a man. I swear, he got sexier since the last time we were together,” Ahnesty sighed.

“Fab is going to kick your little ass,” Chasity laughed.

“Fab is going to do what?” Fabion asked as he walked into the room with his brother behind him.

“Damn nigga, make some noise when you walk in,” Chasity said as she prayed that he didn’t hear their whole conversation.

“That’s what y’all get,” Faizon said. “Now tell us why Fab is going to kick Ahni’s ass?” he instigated.

“Yes, please tell us,” Fabion said.

“Because her ass got a new boyfriend that she’s about to move in, nigga,” Chasity joked.

“Well, shit. Let me get my stuff and move on out the way.” Fab threw his hands up.

“Cut the bullshit, Ahnesty know better and Fab would never bow out that easily.” Faizon said. “But now that that’s out of the way, how about y’all get in the kitchen and fix us something to eat? Niggas been in the street all day and hungry as hell.”

“My feet are swollen, so Ahni, you got
this one on your own,” Chas told her.

“Of course I do,” Ahnesty said as she climbed out of the bed.

These were the moments she lived for. When Fab and Zon had some down time and could chill out. Even if it was for a little while.

Fab sat at the table as he waited for his father to come out. He hated coming to this damn prison but since his dad was technically still running stuff from behind bars, he didn’t have a choice.

“What’s up, nigga?” Fabion’s father Pharaoh spoke.

“Same shit, different toilet. You know how the game go.”

“Indeed I do. I’m happy you came, I got some real shit I need to spit to you,” Pharaoh told his son.

“Cool, but first, I’ll be sending Nikki in a few days so she can get with you,” Fabion said.

Every other week, Fabion sent Nikki to the prison to drop off a little something to his dad that he could sell while he was in there. Pharaoh was the head nigga in charge at the prison and not only was he still running things in the street, he was running things in the prison. The guards not only respected him, they also feared him.

“Good looking out, but Gonzalo is ready to meet with you,” Pharaoh said with a smirk on his face.

“Wh-what you just say?” Fabion asked as if he’d heard his father wrong. “What are you trying to say, Pops?”

“I’m saying I’m completely stepping away from the throne and giving it to you. You fly out to Columbia in exactly one week to meet with him,” Pharaoh explained.

“Just me? Why you handing it down to me and not Zon?” Fabion questioned.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t ready, he was just used to making moves with his brother and he didn’t want it to seem as if he was trying to axe him out of the equation. They had been riding together since birth so he didn’t know how to feel about this.

“Because Faizon said he thinks you would be the better candidate. He said he really didn’t want to be a part but as long as you were involved, then he was too because he wasn’t going to leave you out there by yourself.”

“That nigga.” Fabion smiled as he shook his head.

“So what do you say? Do I need to get the message to Gonzalo that things are going to remain the same or—”
